Afghanistan pre-Taliban was a much different place than what it currently is. Today, if you happen to see a women on the streets of Afghanistan, she’ll be covered from head to toe — head bowed. Boys and girls are kept strictly separated and attend different schools., and fear permeates the air like a heavy fog. If you had been to Afghanistan in the 1960’s, however, you would think that it was a completely different country. Girls paraded around in short skirts, people drove around happily with their windows down, and boys and girls picnicked together out in the sunshine. Take a look at these photos by Dr. Bill Podlich that show how different Afghanistan was before the Taliban took over the country.
