Most athletes try to stay in the sports industry for as long as possible, battling injuries and aging in order to try to prolong their sports career for as long as they can. On the other hand, some athletes have no choice but to look for another job after a failed sports career or a career-ending injury.

Adrian Cardenas was a second baseman for the Chicago Cubs until 2012 when he chose to retire. He wanted to pursue other interests including writing saying that: “I quit because baseball was sacred to me until I started getting paid for it. The more that ‘baseball’ became synonymous with ‘business,’ the less it meant to me.”
